If I develop a solution for a friend and his business partners at no cost (based on personal relations). Should the solution become profitable, Can one request for a particular percentage of any income generated on the solution be allocated to me even though I am not a shareholder whilst considering that i built the solution for free.

You can request by way of negotiation but, you do not have any evidence to show that you were instrumental to the success of the business. If there was an agreement signed from inception, you would have had a right to ask for a percentage based on the terms of the agreement. Therefore, you cannot legally speaking get any percentage except by mutual understanding reduced in writing.
